Panther 999 has been fitted with an experimental centre door operation. Instead of passengers operating the door by standing on the step, the driver opens the door himself [sic], as soon as the bus stops. The brakes are applied and the accelerator locked whenever the centre door is open. The door closes when the driver moves the switch if there is no passenger on the step. 999 also has a device which only permits the bell to sound once for each stop. When it has been rung, a light appears on the instrument panel advising the driver, and an illuminated sign on the ceiling of the bus requests passengers to exit by the centre door. | | | | | | Withdrawn | | 29 Oct 1992 | |
